TASTY TIM Tasty's life story reads more or less like clubland's history itself and telling it in its entirety would take at least a book or two. After all, isn't he just the original gender-bender-offender, the pretty boy with golden balls, the perennial club ornament, seemingly always in the right place, at the right time? Born and raised in the 'garden of England' (he knows it sounds better than Turnbridge Wells, Kent), Little Tim wound up in London virtually just fresh out of his school uniform. He had big dreams about being adored and, more importantly, wearing a lot of powergloss lippy, slap and glitter, while swishing around in night clubs. Not too much to ask, is it? He did just that, starting at the fabulous Cha Cha's at Soundshaft, where he first got the opportunity to get in a DJ box, then at Philip Sallon's Mud Club, The Asylum at Heaven, naturally Kinky Gerlinky (where he hosted), then Beyond at Turnmills, to name but a few now seminal clubs where TT made his own inimitable mark. A spell in NYC at the legendary Disco 2000 in NYC prompted him to take his DJ career more seriously, as well as getting into production. When he got back to London, armed with heaps of funky house beats, he landed directly on Heaven's main dancefloor, then DTPM, Trade, Ministry and Crash. That's when Tasty got hooked on the electro scene and secured a residency at The Cock, where he's been playing to this day. His other current gigs include Trannyshack on Wednesday, Omo at the Astoria on Friday and Revolver, again at the Astoria on Saturday. Still looking stunning, still enjoying it after all these years ... they don't come more leg-end-ary than that, do they? |
